Working for one of my favorite stores of all time, T.J. Maxx, was a dream come true for me. Despite being early on in my career at the time, the senior designer gave me ample design opportunities and allowed me to present my ideas frequently. I ended up getting my designs used in gift cards, storefronts and magazine spreads that I still occasionally see to this day! Ultimately, TJX taught me a lot about designing within Brand Guidelines as well as helping me hone my visual design skills in general. I also discovered what a treat is is to see your designs used in the real world and that is a thrill I continue to pursue.
Giftcards allowed me to focus on designing small. I wanted the designs to be simple yet impactful and provide brand recognition at a glance.
They actually used a different store front that I designed than the one seen here but this one was my favorite. In contrast to the giftcards, store fronts helped my think about design for large spaces.
Magazine ads were a great way to focus on designing around product. I wanted the same unique and engaging brand recognition as always but I also tried to let the product speak for itself a little.
